Procurement Method:
Open tender whereby all interested Suppliers may submit a Proposal.
Description:
The RFP is an invitation to submit offers for the Supply and Install of a Bio-Aerosol Counter/Sizer.
The item being procured is an instrument to measure super micrometer particle size distributions of aerosols from 0.5 to 20 micrometers with high size resolution. It must employ a Time-of-Flight measurement technique which permits the direct measurement of the aerodynamic diameter of fine, airborne particles in real time. This sizing technique shall account for particle shape. The study of particle shape known as morphology is critical to the research since some species of airborne particulates such as sea salt are not spherical. The particle size of such particles can only be detected by the measurement of the aerodynamic diameter which is calculated by the transport time. Other instrumentation such as optical particle counters cannot make these measurements accurately.
The instrument must be unaffected by index of refraction or Mie scattering; the detection capability by other instruments such as optical particle sizers and counters cannot successfully meet this requirement. The instrument should offer rapid measurement of particle number and size distribution with highest accuracy and 52 channels size resolution. In addition, the instrument should also be able to record the particle light-scattering intensity on a particle-by-particle case. This second measurement must be kept separate and distinct from aerodynamic size.
The instrument software shall allow data to be displayed, analyzed, and played back without the need for external spreadsheet programs. Three-dimensional plots of the size distributions over time that can be replayed are required. The instrument must contain the laser & detector, power supply, pump, an LCD display, and all instrument controls in a single cabinet. The instrument must offer microprocessor-controlled internal pumps with temperature and barometric pressure correction.
Summary of key requirements:
1.Time - of - flight measurement – importance of capability to measure particles regardless of shape.
2. High resolution – 52 channel size resolution
3. Unaffected by refractive index or Mie scattering
4. Integrated dilution module to provide 20:1 or 100:1 dilution which the particle size distribution and concentration is automatically corrected for in the software.
