Libraries Cataloguing and Physical Processing

Solicitation number CR 04-26-1126

Publication date

Closing date and time 2026/09/16 14:00 EDT

    Description
McMaster University invites qualified proponents to submit responses for the supply of cataloguing and physical processing services. Cataloguing and physical processing are essential to making physical library collections discoverable and available for research and study. Providers of these services enable McMaster University Libraries (“the Libraries”) to open collections for use, to expand our internal capacity for such work, and to process materials in languages or formats where local expertise is limited or lacking.

The Libraries have a continuing need for cataloguing and processing services. Acquisition of physical collection materials is ongoing, and a significant backlog of such materials remains to be addressed. Additionally, the Libraries have a need for retrospective cataloguing support, converting descriptions from cards or other inventories, as well as improvement of lower-quality legacy metadata.

Historically the Libraries have processed between 1,500 and 2,000 physical items annually using such vendor-supplied services, though this number can vary depending on costs associated with the specific areas of work being undertaken. Retrospective conversion and legacy metadata enhancement would be new areas of work for the Libraries, addressing needs that we do not have local capacity to support.
