RFQ to Purchase of 1 (one) UAV (drone) and 1 (one) Camera

The Province of Nova Scotia has a requirement for the Purchase of 1 (one) Drone and 1 (one) Camera for the Department Fisheries and Aquaculture. The Aquaculture Division of the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture requires the purchase of an uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) (i.e. drone) and camera to create efficiencies and opportunities to support our regulatory programs, and services. The Division undertook research and collaboration internally in late 2023 which identified a specific drone to support the needs of the Aquaculture Division. The acquisition of a drone would allow the Division to survey aquaculture sites and coastlines quickly and efficiently. Currently, marine site visits are conducted using either a Division vessel, industry vessel or by NRR helicopter. A drone, with a high-quality camera, will create a more cost-effective and safer option to consider for marine site visits and near water work. Furthermore, the division aims to use the drone to collect water samples which requires a heavy-duty drone with strong payload capabilities (i.e. the weight a drone can carry) that can transfer a sample container to and from the sample location. The Division’s acquisition of a drone with payload capabilities could potentially create opportunities to support the efficient delivery of water sampling for the Canadian Shellfish Sanitation Program.
