RFP FOR DESIGN, ENGINEERING & PROJECT MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Solicitation number GDBP2026-PLEASANTSTCOMMONS

Publication date

Closing date and time 2026/08/21 13:00 EDT

    Description
The Guysborough District Business Partnership (GDBP) is inviting proposals from qualified multidisciplinary consulting teams to provide design, engineering and project management services for the redevelopment of the former Guysborough Baptist Church at 21 Pleasant Street, Guysborough, Nova Scotia. The property is owned by the GDBP and is being advanced under the working title Pleasant Street Commons. The GDBP are a not-for-profit organization that was formed in 2022 under the direction of the Council of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough to advance the district’s small & medium-sized business offerings; tourism promotion and overall community development throughout the municipality. This property was officially acquired on June 28, 2026, and is intended to be adaptively reused as a mixed-use facility. The main floor is envisioned to be flexible commercial space that could accommodate one or two units of varying sizes to support a range of potential functions based on community need. Potential uses would include a food service operation, a market-style retail facility, or other retail or service-oriented business. The second floor is anticipated to provide flexible training, conference, and office space. The final design should remain as open and adaptable as reasonably possible, allowing the building to respond to changing tenant demands, market opportunities, and community priorities over time. Previous planning and public consultation have consistently identified the need for accessible commercial space, flexible training and meeting areas, heritage-sensitive redevelopment, improved streetscape presence and a facility that supports business growth and community economic development. The successful consultant will use this direction as a basis for design while bringing forward practical recommendations based on the building, applicable codes, cost and constructability.
