Viability Study for New Active Transportation Infrastructure

The Town of Lunenburg is considering improvements to our infrastructure, in particular to our active transportation (AT) network: 1. The AT network along Victoria Road currently ends at Centennial Avenue. Victoria Road (Trunk 3) is a main access road into Lunenburg. Pedestrians travelling to or from the residential area of James Road/Hebb Street must cross Victoria Road to access the existing sidewalk on Victoria Road. 2. There currently is no sidewalk on Maple Avenue. The AT network currently ends on Dufferin Street (near Churchill Street). Maple Avenue is a residential area and acts as a main access to Lunenburg. It also provides connection to the Bay-to-Bay recreation trail. A sketch of these areas are attached as Schedule A. This is a new study looking at the viability (and associated costs) focussing on the following: 1. Constructing a sidewalk and/or crosswalk to provide connection from the James Road/Hebb Street area to the existing active transportation network on Victoria Road. 2. Constructing a sidewalk along Maple Avenue from the existing sidewalk termination at Dufferin Street (near Churchill Street) to the connection with the Bay-to-Bay trail. • All work must meet current accessibility codes and standards.
