surrounding area which includes Lake Temagami, a body of water that spans 45 km from north to south and 35 km from east to west with many points on the lake being boat accessible only. With the increase in public activity through the fire season on Lake Temagami, the need to respond to and action forest fires on this body of water is crucial.
The North Bay FMH currently operates a 2004 boat package (boat, motor, and trailer) that is 18 feet long and has a maximum weight capacity of 1,300 lbs. which is not adequate in size to transport a four-person Fire Ranger crew, fire incident packs, suppression equipment, camping gear, and food to an incident.
The procurement of a replacement, reliable water vessel will guarantee the Ministry’s ability to respond to fires among the vast body of water in a safe, prompt and fiscally responsible manor, while also freeing up aircraft resources for Initial Attack and Alerts.
