Esox Lake Dam is situated at the outlet of Gussie Lake within the Manitou River
Watershed, approximately 50 km North-East of Fort Frances in the Rainy River District of Ontario, with a Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) location of 15U 477421E, 5433128N.
Access to dam site is from Ontario Provincial Highway 502. From Highway 502 turn left (West) onto Cedar Narrows Road and continue Westerly for approximately 30.9km. Turn left (South) onto Charles Road at the intersection of Cedar Narrows Road and Charles Road (Formerly Kaiarskons Road), continue southerly for approximately 1.5km. Turn left (East) onto unnamed road at the intersection of Charles Road and the unnamed road, continue on unnamed road for approximately 3.13km to reach Esox Lake Dam.
Esox Lake Dam is owned by MNRF and was constructed in 1952. The Dam has two components, one being the concrete dam at the East side and the other being the earthen embankment at the West side of the dam. The concrete dam is 91.44 m long and 5.5 m high with 3 stop-log controlled sluiceways. The earthen embankment dam is mostly covered by vegetation. The dimensions of the embankment are indistinct and there is no definite shape to the crest, upstream or downstream slopes.
