Description
The objective of this project is to explore the potential application of NAICS, NAPCS and HS codes for collecting data related to the bioeconomy and make recommendations on which combination of coding systems would best suit the needs of tracking the forest bioeconomy and the larger bioeconomy in Canada.  In this project the following work will be undertaken: (1) identify current and emerging forest based bioproducts and biofuels and map out a way forward for establishing HS and NAPCS codes and definitions, (2) identify current and emerging industries in the bioeconomy and map out a way forward for establishing NAICS codes and definitions, (3) map out a process for estimating the forest bioeconomy and the larger bioeconomy in Canada using current and proposed NAICS, NAPCS and HS codes, and (4) map out the timelines for updating and adapting the proposed NAICS, NAPCS and HS codes as Canada’s bioeconomy continues to evolve.
