EN578-055605/767/EI Description of the requirement: The Department of Canadian Heritage (PCH) manages a diverse Web presence comprised of various types of sites (corporate/departmental, multi-jurisdictional and collaborative) serving a wide range of visitors, including departmental clients and Canadians. Transformation is an ongoing activity and as such PCH is undertaking an application portfolio review of the departmental applications, in order to simplify, homogenize and rationalize its applications, frameworks and middleware. PCH is seeking Lucene/Solr expertise to support the replacement of its current search engine Oracle Endeca by Lucene/Solr in several applications. A new indexed, full-text search solution will be designed and implemented to support 3 applications all residing in the website www.rcip-chin.gc.ca: • Artist in Canada which contains 55,000 master records linked through 10 one-many relationships • CHIN Data Dictionaries which contains 1,500 master records linked through 4 one-many relationships • Forum which contains 1,100 master records linked through 4 one-many relationships The project will involve implementing the Lucene/Solr architecture to replace the existing features supported by the current search Engine Endeca. The scope of the project could include but is not limited to: • Evaluate all business use cases currently supported by Endeca search engine and find equivalent Lucene/Solr solution, such as: - provide Lucene/Solr query - provide unit test code using Lucene/Solr APIs • The business use cases include the following but are not limited to: - Stemming - Facet search or dimension browsing - Results sorting - Results aggregation Page navigation at the list level and at the detail level - Possibly term ranking - Simultaneous updates and searches - Real-time indexing Time estimate for global architecture – 3 weeks Time estimate for each application (3 in total) – 7 weeks For a total of 24 weeks Proposed period of contract: The proposed period of contract shall be from May 2015 to December 31, 2015.
