    Description

    The department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has a requirement to the services of two (2) wildlife monitors to accompany scientists hiking and working in the Mackenzie Mountains in the region of the headwaters of the Arctic Red, Ram, and Stone Knife Rivers (northern part of the Bonnet Plume River map area; NTS 106B). Work will be done initially from a base camp at “Goober” Lake, and then from a base camp at “Poacher” Lake.

    Work Duties:

    • Accompany geologists from the Geological Survey of Canada on daily helicopter excursions and day hikes from base camp or while camping.
    • As required, stay in fly camps (small tent camps away from base camp) with research teams, contributing to camp duties while doing so.
    • Provide the service of wildlife monitoring and protection to the mapping team from wildlife attacks. Any need for reporting wildlife observations to the local community will be the responsibility of the monitor.
    • Provide advice to Geological Survey of Canada mapping team concerning local land use, particularly with respect to sensitive cultural sites that should not be disturbed by mapping activities.
    • Assist with the activities of geological mapping/surveying including as needed: navigating by map and compass or GPS, collecting rock samples, describing outcrops of bedrock.
    • Assist and/or give guidance in documenting and reporting any hazardous environmental occurrences.
    • Assist in rendering first-aid as required.

      Wildlife Monitor One:

      One monitor is required from July 6th to August 4th. The monitor must travel from Tsiigehtchic to Norman Wells on July 5th and return home on August 5th. This is a total of 32 days (30 days work and 2 days travel). This monitor will work in both field camp locations.

      Wildlife Monitor Two:

      One monitor is required from July 19th to August 4th. The monitor must travel from Tsiigehtchic to Norman Wells on July 18th and return home on August 5th. This is a total of 19 days (17 days work and 2 days travel). This monitor will work out of the Poacher Lake base camp only.

      The Project will provide sleeping accommodations in tents (with a cot), and food while in field camp and return travel from Norman Wells to field camp..

    The contract period will be July 5th to August 5th, 2017
