    Description

    Requirement:

    Rideau Canal National Historic Site requires a Contractor to perform all the work associated with the repair of all deteriorated heritage stone masonry and mortar joints within all components of the lock including the walls, floor, stop log gains and sluice tunnels and to specific approach walls external to the lock as indicated. Generally the work will include stone replacement, stone repair, repointing, grouting and excavation and backfilling. The work will also include the design, installation and removal of coffer dams. Some minor metal fabrication and painting is also required.

    Work on this project is scheduled to be completed in 2 phases during successive, non-navigation seasons of the Rideau Canal. Non-navigation periods are, from mid-October 2018 to mid-May 2019 and from mid-October 2019 to mid-May 2020. Contractor to completely demobilize from site between phases. In Phase 1, the intent is to complete all work outside the lock chamber as a priority, where cofferdams are required to dewater the work areas, including work on the lock floor, lower lock walls and mid-gate breast wall. West Wall excavation works must also be completed in Phase 1. Work on Lock 26 is also recommended to be included in Phase 1. In Phase 2, the intent is to include the remaining repair work that can be accomplished inside a dewatered lock chamber with only stop logs installed in the lock stop log gains.     To assist with bonding and insurance requirements, this project is estimated at a value between $1,000,001 > $5,000,000, Taxes extra.

    Mandatory Criteria

    Bidders must demonstrate with their bid that they meet the mandatory requirements. Refer to Appendix 3 Qualifications Form for details.

    Optional Site Visit:

    There will be an optional site visit on 16 August 2018 at 10:00 EDT. Interested bidders are to meet at the Old Slys lock station near the lock office.

    The site visit for this project is OPTIONAL. The representative of the bidder will be required to sign the Site Visit Attendance Sheet at the site visit. Bidders who do not attend or do not send a representative will not be given an alternative appointment but they will not be precluded from submitting a bid. Any clarifications or changes to the bid solicitation resulting from the site visit will be included as an amendment to the bid solicitation.
