1.0 TITLE
Rental of a Heavy-Duty Truck & Articulated Crane with Driver/Operator
2.0 PURPOSE
The Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada requires the services of a company that can provide a qualified and experienced driver/operator, as well as a truck equipped with an articulated crane for transporting and handling standard weights, to assist Measurement Canada inspectors performing heavy-duty scale inspections in the areas of Quebec having postal codes that begin with H and J (Greater Montreal, Lanaudière, Laurentians, Outaouais, Montérégie, Eastern Townships, Abitibi, etc.).
The vehicle will be used mainly to transport 10 000 kg of standard weights (provided by Measurement Canada) for Measurement Canada inspectors to inspect heavy-duty scales. The vehicle will have to travel on various types of roads (highways, secondary roads and logging roads) to access scale installations.
The vehicle and driver/operator will be required for one-week periods, for a total of 25 weeks throughout the year following contract issuance, in accordance with Measurement Canada needs. The contract term will be for one year, with the option to extend for a full or partial second year upon request by Measurement Canada.
3.0 BACKGROUND
Measurement Canada, an agency of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada, has a mandate that includes the inspection of heavy-duty scales pursuant to the Weights & Measures Act and Regulations.
4.0 PROJECT REQUIREMENTS/OBJECTIVES
Measurement Canada requires the services of a Contractor to provide a truck, articulated crane and a qualified, experienced driver/operator to assist Measurement Canada inspectors in performing scale inspection activities in the areas of Quebec having postal codes that begin with H and J (Greater Montreal, Lanaudière, Laurentians, Outaouais, Montérégie, Eastern Townships, Abitibi, etc.).
