Closing date and time 2020/01/24 13:00 EST

    Description

    Natural Resources Canada’s Public Safety Geoscience Program is leading a detailed assessment of earthquake risk to inform disaster resilience planning in planning in Canada through a collaborative research partnership with the Global Earthquake Model Foundation (GEM) and organizations at all levels of government who contribute to implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) in Canada. The study utilizes GEM’s OpenQuake modelling platform and methods of integrated assessment to analyze the likely impacts and consequences of damaging earthquakes, and the compounding effects of increasing exposure and vulnerability that are driving escalating earthquake risk trends in metropolitan centres across western Canada. Study outputs include information on expected building damage and related socioeconomic losses for both probabilistic and scenario-based earthquake risk model.

    High level objectives of this requirement are:

    1. Design and build an open disaster risk information portal (OpenDRI) application at RiskProfiler.ca for sharing knowledge about earthquake risk to support disaster risk reduction and resilience planning in the public domain;
    2. Populate the OpenDRI portal with authoritative information and knowledge about earthquake risk, risk reduction potential and climate-related hazards of concern for Canada ; and
    3. Develop a capacity to interactively explore hazard and risk profiles at the neighbourhood level through the use of emerging best practices for risk communication, including visual analytics and narrative-based story maps.
