    (a) Requirement
    The Prototype group at Defence Research and Development Canada - Valcartier Research Centre, would like to upgrade some of its inventory of machine tools. Several machines are obsolete and require constant repair. For this purpose, we are seeking to replace the existing machine tool (Simultaneous 4-axis “Double Column Bridge-Type” numerically controlled milling machine) with similar characteristics in terms of high precision and machining capacity (size and weight).  
    The replacement machine should not exceed the space currently occupied by the existing machine. The cone type for the tools shall be CAT-50 to enable use of all tools currently in our stock. Moreover, this large CNC machine must have a milling capacity of 59” in length x 31” in width x 25” in height as well as the ability to move pieces of up to 5,500 lbs (2,495 kg). The expected power and spindle speed are 50 hp and 10,000 RPM and multiple other specifications must be met.
