BACKGROUND:
The objective of the CSC Project is to recapitalize the surface
combatant fleet of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) by replacing
and updating the warfare capabilities currently residing with
the Iroquois and Halifax Class warships.  Integrated logistic
support, initial training and provision of supporting
infrastructure are also included in the project scope.
Based upon discussions and feedback on CSC requirements
presented at recent Technical Industry Engagements, the
complexities surrounding acquisition of appropriate Intellectual
Property (IP) rights for the CSC Project were acknowledged. 
This feedback highlighted the need for the development of a
holistic CSC Intellectual Property Strategy, in order to manage
the full spectrum of IP and related challenges the CSC Project
may face throughout the life cycle of the CSC, due to the wide
range of deliverables/services from multiple originators.

OBJECTIVE OF THIS RFI:
The CSC Project Management Office (CSC PMO) is requesting
industry insight on Intellectual Property (IP) that may be
required, generated and/or incorporated by a wide range of
potential suppliers, under multiple contracts, during the CSC
life cycle. This information will be used to inform development
of the appropriate CSC IP Strategy necessary to facilitate
acquisition and use of IP rights throughout all phases of the
CSC life cycle.

NATURE AND FORMAT OF RESPONSES REQUESTED
Respondents are requested to provide their comments, raise any
concerns and, where applicable, make recommendations on the
objectives described in this RFI and explain any assumptions
they make in their responses. 
Responses should be submitted using the response table provided
at Annex A - Response table, RFI CSC002.  
Responses should include the name of the respondent firm and the
contact person in the event that Canada determines that
clarification or additional information is required.

NATURE OF REQUEST FOR INFORMATION: 
This RFI is an industry consultation document intended to
solicit feedback from industry with respect to the matters
described in this RFI. This is not a bid solicitation.
This RFI will not result in the award of any contract, nor will
this RFI result in the creation of any source list, therefore,
whether or not any potential supplier responds to this RFI will
not preclude that supplier from participating in any future
procurement.

Responses to this RFI may be in either of the official languages
of Canada.
