Description
Trade Agreement: Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT) Tendering Procedures: If 3+ bids offer Canadian goods/services other bids will not be considered Attachment: None Competitive Procurement Strategy: Best Overall Proposal Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement: No Nature of Requirements: MODELLING IMPACT PROPERTIES Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) Atlantic The objective of this work is to carry out an investigation of the impact properties of negative Poisson's Ratio materials using numerical modelling techniques. In Phase 1, the effect of honeycomb geometry on the mechanical properties and energy absorption under dynamic compressive loading of polymeric foams containing conventional or re-entrant honeycomb-shaped air voids will be studied. In Phase 2, a number of conventional and re-entrant honeycomb foam geometries whose compression behaviour was studied in Phase 1 will be selected for further study. The ability of various foam materials having equivalent areal density to protect an underlying metal substrate from impact damage shall be determined, and compared to the effect of solid polymer coatings as well as uncoated metal plates. This contract requires expertise and experience in finite element modelling using LS-DYNA or similar software, experience and understanding of polymer modelling and relevant constitutive models applicable to impact loading, and an understanding of the mechanics of auxetic foams. Defence Research & Development Canada requires that all aspects of Phase 1 to be complete by 31 March, 2013 and all aspects of Phase 2 to be complete by 31 December, 2013. The requirement is subject to a preference for Canadian goods and/or services. INQUIRIES: All inquiries of a technical nature and all questions of a contractural nature are to be submitted to the Contracting Authority: Alex Russell, facsimile: (902) 496-5016, E-mail: alex.russell@pwgsc.gc.ca. Inquiries are to be made in writing and should be received no less than five (5) calendar days prior to the closing date to allow sufficient time to respond.
