    VESSEL CHARTER -   to charter a commercial swordfisherman with
    vessel to take a scientific team of four (4)  off the
    continental shelf, towards the Gulf Stream, to catch, examine
    and tag mako sharks.
    
    VESSEL REQUIREMENTS;
    
    The vessel must be at least 44' in length, 50' in length in
    water, 23' wide, and be fully equipped for longlining sharks,
    and come with a valid commercial swordfish fishing licence.
    
    The vessel must have, throughout the standby period, all
    certificates, lifesaving equipment and apparatus as required by
    the Transport Canada and/or Department of Fisheries Oceans Small
    Vessel Regulations (Canada), and all, navigational signals and
    equipment in an operational order as required by the Collision
    Regulations  (Canada).
    	
    The vessel must have a life raft (inspected) capable of holding
    4 or more people.  		
    
    The vessel must have room for a team of 4 scientific staff
    aboard, who will be part of the charter trip.		
    
    Adequate food and fresh water supply for duration of the cruise
    
    Owner MUST  provide, as part of the ship's equipment, a Marine
    Radar, an echo sounder, a VHF radio telephone, GPS and Loran C
    receiver, and a backup VHF radio telephone and Loran C receiver.
    		
    The Owner must declare the ability to procure and maintain in
    effect insurance with the Minister named as coinsured  at value
    sufficient  to protect all interest.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    
    The charter will be for a maximum of 5 days to include steaming
    time (to the Gulf Stream off the continental shelf) and fishing
    days.  Pelagic longline sets of 600 hooks, baited and deployed
    as is normal for mako shark and other large pelagics, will be
    carried out each day and night of fishing.  Each set will be
    soaked less than 8 hours to enhance survival.  
    
    The charter will be complete when 10 makos have been caught,
    tagged and released alive with archival satellite popup tags, or
    when 3 days of successful fishing sets off the continental shelf
    and in or near the Gulf Stream have been completed, whichever
    comes first.
    
    CHARTER PERIOD:
    
    Period between Sept 20, 2013 - October 15, 2013 - days worked to
    be 10-12 hours and will depend on the weather (at scientists'
    discretion).
