    Title

Non-Destructive Techniques for Qualification of Additive
    Manufacturing Processes (Literature Review)

    Background

Additive Manufacturing, also referred to as 3-D printing, is an
emerging disruptive technology that is expected to revolutionize
product fabrication on a global scale and have a profound impact
on industrial competitiveness and national security. This is
primarily due to its flexibility to fabricate structures with
radical geometries and microstructures that enable unique custom
mechanical properties. Its flexibility also translates to a
considerable qualification challenge in defence applications
where a minor change in the fabrication process requires
extensive empirical testing to fully re-qualify a component/part.

    Requirement
DRDC Atlantic requires a literature review to support the
development of new qualification procedures that employs both
    in-process and post-process non-destructive techniques to
demonstrate if a metallic component or part produced through an
Additive Manufacturing process adheres to established defence
    specifications.
