IMPORTANT NOTICE TO SUPPLIERS RE. BID SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Environment Canada and Climate Change requires a plate reader for assessing the toxicity of environmental water samples. The plate reader must provide versatility for a wide range of assays our lab conducts for our multiple endpoint toxicity testing. 

Our organic biochemistry laboratory in the Aquatic Contaminants Research Division (ACRD) at the Canada Centre for Inland Waters (Burlington, ON) carries out research projects under various research programs (e.g. Chemical Management Plan (CMP), Oil Sands Monitoring (OSM), Great Lakes Action Plan (GLAP), St. Lawrence Action Plan (SLAP)) assessing the biological responses of organisms to known and unknown compounds and mixtures. This research routinely involves samples with unknown complex chemical mixtures, and therefore the most sensitive and relevant toxicological endpoints are often unknown. A plate reader should provide the ability to assess many sub-lethal endpoints and will allow for better characterization of these unknown environmental samples. 

The objective for the Burlington laboratory is to acquire a plate reader to expand the capabilities of our toxicology lab and better deliver on our research objectives.
