The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has the intent to acquire all hardware, software, and accessories necessary for conducting surveys of marine habitats and resources with a scientific-grade single-beam sonar unit (Biosonics DT-X Extreme). This package should necessarily include the following components/capabilities:

Mandatory capabilities
Echosounder unit:
o Scientific-grade with low noise floor of ~-140 dB;
o User-selectable ping rate (at least 1-10 Hz);
o User-selectable pulse duration;
o Integrated DGPS unit with external antenna;
o Ruggedized and portable housing for use on multiple vessels;
o Capable of data collection in water depth up to 500 m;
o Option to use either 12V DC or 110V AC power;
o Ability to connect multiple transducers simultaneously;
o Ability to use multiple transducer frequencies and types (e.g. single-beam as well as split-beam);
o Option to run autonomously or connect to laptop for real-time control with both internal and external data logging capabilities;
o Wired or wireless connection capability;
o Ability to record Biosonics *.dtx files with integrated DGPS and orientation sensor data;
o Effective for mapping marine habitats including submerged aquatic vegetation and sediment type.

Transducer:
o Approximately 420 kHz frequency;
o Narrow, circular beam pattern with angle of approximately 6 degrees;
o Very low side-lobe returns, -25 dB or better;
o Integrated orientation sensor.


Accessories:
o Equipment for mounting transducer for use on small vessels;
o Waterproof deck cable (at least 20 ft in length);
o Calibration target;
o Included software for data acquisition and analysis; must be compatible with Biosonics Visual Habitat software to maintain integrity of past datasets and continuity of analyses.

New measures related to Integrity Provisions are included in the solicitation documents requires attention.
