The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) has a requirement for the purchase and installation of a mid-size variable pressure scanning electron microscope (VP-SEM).  The microscope shall consist of a variable pressure, medium sized chamber scanning electron microscope with magnification range of between 5x - 300,000x.  A microcomputer system and the necessary software shall be provided for instrument control and for data acquisition, presentation and storage.  The microscope system shall include all equipment necessary for the maintenance of high vacuum, but be able to operate in variable-pressure mode for uncoate
d samples.  All other equipment, special tools and software necessary for the operation of the system in accordance with the requirements of this specification shall be provided.  The function of the Scanning Electron Microscope system shall include introduction of samples varyin
g from uncoated soft tissue to coated samples requiring high resolution 
imaging.  For additional specifications and mandatory requirements, please see the Specification at Annex “B”.
