NRC’s Human Health Therapeutic (HHT) portfolio has a requirement for a benchtop, fully automated immunohistochemical (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), in situ hybridization (ISH) staining instrument. HHT’s mandate is to offer IHC/IF/ISH services to industrial and internal clients. These clients perform drug development research and by offering this service, HHT facilitates the progress of the drug research. HHT is a fee for service portfolio and relies on client staining service demands as its sole revenue base. The staining instrument is required to address the exponential and sudden increase in client demands for IHC/IF/ISH services. Inability to address the increased workload will result in clients directing their requirements to other sources. The automated staining instrument will permit on-board slide baking, de-waxing, and performance of all pre-treatment steps, primary antibody application and detection, including hematoxylin counterstaining. In addition to ensuring quality control and quality assurance, the new staining instrument will provide consistent staining data results vis-à-vis the current manual system.
