    OVERVIEW

    SUMMARY OF WORK
.1 The Canadian Wildlife Service of the Department of the Environment’s mission is to preserve exceptional sites such as the Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area (NWA)
.2 The Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area belongs to the Canadian Wildlife Service. Its purpose is to protect the American Bulrush marshes that serve as the primary habitat of the Greater Snow Goose during migration periods.
.3 The Administrative Centre (Petite-ferme)was built in the late XVIIth century or the beginning of the XVIII century. The house of La Petite Ferme is a very good example of domestic architecture of the French Regime, to which neoclassical-derived elements were added during the 19th century, making it a prime model of the typical Québec farmhouse. The building’s simple and good functional design has allowed its continuous use for more than 250 years as a residence for farmers, in addition to housing various activities in its larger spaces, and on occasion, lodging vacationing Seminary students. Its use of solid traditional construction methods, including heavy local sandstone walls and a cedar wood roof framing, exemplify the very good quality of its craftsmanship and materials. Upgrade works are to be executed.
.4 The Interpretation Centre was built int 1973 and enlarged in 1976. Important renovations took place in 1982 and 1993. The building’s area is about 542 m2 split on two floors. A mechanical room and crawl spaces make out additional spaces below grade. Upgrade works are to be executed.
