Description
Trade Agreement: NONE Tendering Procedures: All interested suppliers may submit a bid Competitive Procurement Strategy: Best Overall Proposal Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement: No Nature of Requirements: W7701-227472/A Test Matrix Study: High Power Laser Interaction With Plastic and composites DESCRIPTION: High Power Lasers (HPL) have found niche applications in the manufacturing sector, cutting, welding and tempering metallic samples with an increasing efficiency. The proliferation of HPL in the manufacturing sector was driven mainly with the advent of fibre-based laser technologies capable of multiple kilowatts of laser power. These systems have demonstrated robustness, efficiency and reliability in a compact form factor making a transition to military applications finally achievable. HPL are currently being considered for defence applications such as ordnance disposal and defeating unmanned aerial systems. However, while the damage thresholds for common metals are well documented, the information for plastics and composites is scarce or incomplete. Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) is interested in doing a systematic study, selecting conditions realistically achievable at a long distance, to determine the damage threshold and optimal exposition conditions. The experimentation must be documented using external sensors such as active imaging of the interaction site, fluorescence spectroscopy and a thermal imagery. PERIOD OF THE CONTRACT: From date of Contract to March 31, 2022 inclusive.
