The National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Research Centre (RC) in Saskatoon, SK, has the requirement to purchase a Digital 3D Microscope to be able to create real-time 3D viewing of biological specimens in their RC which is focused on crop improvement though the study of plant development and the characterization of diverse and desirable phenotypes (observable traits), to be able to visualize structural features on a variety of plant species, which is a critical capability required to advance their scientific progress.

The current imaging technology available at NRC produces flat, two-dimensional images with extremely shallow depth of field, although microscope specimens are three dimensional objects. The Digital 3D microscope addresses these challenges by digitally capturing and combining multiple images of specimens into a single high resolution 3D image.

The unique features of the Digital 3D microscopes’ extended depth of focus and software greatly enhance imaging of specimens encountered in applications such as marine and plant biology.
