The system does so in a closed circuit, removing the requirement of expensive and wasteful liquid helium to perform the cooling. This particular unit will cool a gas field ion source (GFIS) that NRC Nano has been developing. The GFIS generates an ion beam of various gases including helium, neon, hydrogen, nitrogen and other. NRC Nano is developing and characterizing improved GFISs for use as the ion source in a scanning ion microscope. The asset will support an approved NRC Nano research project on the development of nanotips and single atom tips as ion sources. It will also support a collaborative research project with Hitachi High Technologies in Japan developing hydrogen ion sources. Delivery Date: Above-mentioned The Crown retains the right to negotiate with suppliers on any procurement. Documents may be submitted in either official language of Canada.
