One of the most important aspects of any wet lab is water quality delivered to the animals. It is important that it is optimum for aquatic life and will not affect their health and welfare. This aspect of live animal research is governed by the Canadian Council of Animal Care (CCAC), which CCIW's own Animal Care Committee enforces. Chlorine is one of the most concerning chemicals found in drinking water if used for wet labs. Many fish species are extremely intolerant. It is recommended by the CCAC that concentrations be below 10 ug/L. The incoming municipal water at CCIW is usually above 1 mg/L. The ALRF uses five large carbon tanks which remove chlorine from the municipal water we use, but this carbon eventually needs to be replaced every 2-3 years. With the addition of a Chlorine Destruct UV system, the time for re-bedding the carbon tanks can be delayed. This system will be installed downstream of the current UV disinfection system, which does not destroy chlorine or Total Organic Carbon (TOC). All deliverables are requested 4 weeks after receipt of contract award, but must be delivered on or before March 29, 2013. A bid must comply with the requirements of the bid solicitation and meet all mandatory technical evaluation criteria to be declared responsive. The responsive bid with the lowest evaluated price will be recommended for award of a contract. Please refer to the Request for Proposal document for complete details regarding this requirement, including the mandatory evaluation criteria, and basis of selection.
