    PROCUREMENT STRATEGY FOR OFFICE EQUIPMENT IS NOW FINALIZED

    Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) thanks
    government departments and suppliers who provided comments and
    recommendations on the draft proposed National Procurement
    Strategy for Office Equipment.

    The feedback collected was valuable in ensuring that the final
    strategy is aligned with industry's direction and client needs.

    strategy on GCPEDIA.

    SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS

    Significant insight was provided with respect to many elements
    as highlighted below:
    Emphasizing that Managed Print Services (MPS) is a service
    rather than a product-based offering and the steps required to
    effectively implement an MPS solution, including the structure
    of contractual and service level agreements; striking a balance
    between relying on single vendors to provide far-reaching
    solutions and the need to provide fair opportunities to all
    suppliers;
    Interest in government departments to move towards increased
    efficiency through print environment optimization and effective
    fleet management; need to continue emphasis on environmental
    considerations, including emerging standards such as IEEE 1680.2
    for imaging equipment; need for balance in applying controls to
    enhance productivity instead of simply cutting costs;
    Evolving trends concerning the needs of mobile workers and how
    cloud computing underpins the service aspect of printing in the
    future;
    Providing focus on reduction of printing through the use of
    business intelligence, leading to the planning and
    implementation of rules-based solutions that provide enhanced
    efficiency and effectiveness; and, finally
    Insight on the expected next steps of MPS evolution, namely:
    Enterprise Content Management,
    Information workflow, and
    Configuration management.

    The advice provided by industry will assist PWGSC with the
    implementation of the final strategy including the promotion of
    print optimization and better fleet management, maintaining and
    improving the use of standing offers, and conducting MPS pilot
    projects within the Government of Canada. Pilot projects will be
    considered in cases where:

    Suppliers and government departments are in a state of readiness;
    Potential risks and mitigation strategies have been identified;
    and
    Monitoring mechanisms have been identified to measure progress.
