    Description
Fort Henry Advanced Battery Repaving, Drainage Upgrades and Utilities Replacement

    Solicitation 10130492

    GENERAL WORK DESCRIPTION:

Parks Canada Agency has a requirement to replace the existing deteriorated 1950s asphalt within the Advanced Battery parade square area of Fort Henry National Historic Site with a new glass gird reinforced asphalt surface. Also included is the full replacement and upgrading of underground storm sewers and other site utilities services excluding domestic water and sanitary sewer services. Work will involve minor heritage stone masonry works (Core drilling and minor stone and mortar works). The project is considered a heritage rehabilitation of a historic parade square which is associated with the current masonry fort of the 1830s and which is also known to be situated over sensitive archaeological resources dating back to the war of 1812.

The work includes the challenges of working within specified archaeological guidelines including requirements to excavate under archaeology monitoring and for a significant amount of bedrock excavation to avoid impacting archaeological resources with utilities installations. Other challenges include facilitating construction access to a historic mass masonry fortification designed to keep intruders beyond its walls, also dealing with high winds associated with the site and tailoring operations to meet tight deadlines and in phases complete work simultaneously with a number of scheduled site events
ensuring no disruption to site activities.

The site visit for this project is therefore mandatory for bid acceptance.

    MANDATORY SITE VISIT:

THERE WILL BE A MANDATORY SITE VISIT ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 23, 2013 AT 11:00 A.M. (EDT)

Bidders are to meet the Departmental Representative on site. Refer to the attached job showing directions map.

The person conducting the site visit will have an attendance form which is to be signed by the bidder’s representatives in attendance. Bidders are advised that any clarifications or changes resulting from the site visit shall be included as an amendment to the bid solicitation document.
