    Description

    General Description:

Each year, 7 Skateway chalets, 2 service trailers and an electrical kiosk need to be craned in/out of the Rideau Canal. The chalets and trailers are installed at four locations on permanent, or none permanent pillars along the Skateway. See Appendix 1 – Rideau Canal Map Book for the exact locations of the chalets and trailers. Both trailers are installed at the Fifth Ave rest area, one trailer (40ft) is shown on the plan as the Skateway first aid trailer and the second trailer (32ft) is shown as the washroom. See Appendix 2 for pictures of trailers and electrical kiosk specifications. The NCC is, looking for a proponent for the coordination of “turnkey” service for the craning (using a crane with appropriate reach radius and weight capacity), the handling (from cribbing at warehouse to pillars on the canal) and the transportation to and from our Woodroffe warehouse to its final position. The supplier must consider that the removal phase includes all the steps mentioned for the installation. See Appendix 3 – for typical timeline of operations

The Chalets will be transported by a uniform handling system. The basis of the handling will be that the chalets will be carried by the (2) two main structural frame beams, or suspended by the designed lifting eyes to avoid any stress or torsion on the chalets structural frames. This custom uniform single point of movement control system, a trailer, or any carrying system has to have the ability to be positioned between the support blocking (that is supporting the chalets). The transportation system will have to transfer the load ( the Chalets), (by means of hydraulics or air suspension ) to the mobile system ( trailer or “dolly” system ) complete with designed supports, which will be positioned under the chalets two (2) main structural frame beams. (Contact points complete with “hold-downs”).

For the installation, the Chalet units will be off loaded and placed on the fixed pillars, located for support in the canal, by crane.

For the removal, the units will be placed on the custom system by crane and transported to a designated storage area. The units will be positioned between blocking, raised by the carrying system, blocking placed, lowered on to the structural beams, and the system pulled out from under.

For the two (2) trailers, the lifting frame cannot be used to crane it on and off the canal. For the procedure, (2) two main structural frame beams will need to be positioned under the trailer frames.
