    Description

Parks Canada Agency, Banff Field National Park requires a contractor to supply and install adjustable, wildlife-friendly fencing in eleven (11) key areas around the 1,200 km2 bison reintroduction zone to encourage the bison to stay within and bond to the area. The 7km of fencing is spread across eleven remote sites in the backcountry of Banff National Park of which only one is accessible by restricted road. Others need to be accessed via helicopter and on foot. Helicopters will be used to access and supply the work sites and will be the responsibility of the contractor.

Much of the terrain to be fenced is steep and rugged. Workers will need to be very physical fit and be comfortable and adept at constructing the required fence using only hand tools. Workers must also be willing to work from remote tent camps, an outfitter camp, and park patrol cabins. Park patrol cabins will be provided free-of charge but the cost of setting up remote tent camps and using the outfitter camp will be the responsibility of the contractor. The contractor will be responsible for all food and tools.

Construction will occur in two phases:

    1. March –April 2017: clearing of narrow, 1.5m-wide fence lines using chainsaw (trimming of tree branches, removal of deadfall, trimming of shrubs). Clearing must occur during this time period to avoid bird nesting season. Detailed surveying of fence lines will occur at this time so the contractor can finalize their materials list and approach for each site.
    2. June –October 2017: fence construction.

A Mandatory site visit is scheduled for Monday March 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the YaHa Tinda Ranch, 84 km West of Sundre, AB on the Forestry Trunk Road # 584.

National Parks Regulations require that all work is to be performed in accordance with the ordinances, laws, rules and regulations set out in the National Park Act.
