The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) requires the services of external professionals (such as academia and industry consultants with demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence) for a review of the CNSC’s regulatory framework (i.e., Nuclear Safety and Control Act, Regulations and REGDOCs) readiness for artificial intelligence.
The objective of this review is to provide an environmental scan of the how regulators are addressing AI in their regulatory frameworks, as well as assessment and compliance verification strategies for the use of AI in their regulated activities. Further, this review will provide the CNSC and other federal regulatory bodies with relevant information on the types of AI and the means of adoption globally within the regulatory community.
Additionally, the review is intended to assist the CNSC identify the best course of action regarding requirements around the implementation of AI in the nuclear industry as well as providing insight to the CNSC as to the nature of resources required to do so.
