TRADEMARKS NICE CLASSIFICATION SOLUTION FOR CANADIAN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), an agency of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, is responsible for the administration and processing of trademark applications and registrations. Canada acceded to Singapore Treaty and the Madrid Protocol. A requirement for accession was the use of Nice Classification, governed by the Nice Agreement.
The Nice Classification is a system used to categorize goods or services according to 45 general classes for the purpose of registering a trademark. The categories are harmonized across all member countries, making it easier to search and compare different trademarks.
In order to reduce Trademark (TM) processing and examination times and align CIPO service standards with other IPOs, CIPO is seeking a solution to automatically provide the applicable Nice Classification in relation to the goods and services submitted by Trademark applicants and registered owners.
Purpose of this Request for Information
This Request for Information (RFI) is a consultation initiative that seeks feedback from Industry on Trademarks Nice Classification Solution requirements. The Information collected will inform subsequent Request for Proposal (RFP) for Trademarks Nice Classification Solution for Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).
Nature and Format of Responses Requested
Respondents are requested to provide their comments, concerns and, where applicable, alternative recommendations regarding how the requirements or objectives described in this RFI could be satisfied. Respondents should explain any assumptions they make in their responses.
    Enquiries and Submission of Responses
