    Future Pilot Training - Update to Industry

    Introduction

    1.	This Update to Industry continues the discussion regarding
    Canada's Future Pilot Training (FPT) and follows on from
    previous engagements:

    a.	September 2013 - 2013 Request for Information (RFI)
    publication;
    b.	February 2014  -  Industry Engagement Session;
    c.	April 2014  - 2nd RFI;
    d.	May 2014 - 2nd Industry Engagement Session.

    Background

    2.	The information received during the February and May 2014
    sessions and internal staff analysis identified that a full
    implementation of the FPT system will not be achievable in time
    to avoid a training gap upon completion of the current NATO
    Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) training services contract. An
    interim Future Pilot Training solution (iFPT) will therefore be
    required to ensure the continuity of pilot training. As a
    consequence, the original FPT Project will remain in Options
    Analysis (OA) and is being re-profiled to deliver the
    comprehensive long-term pilot training requirements for Canada
    later than previously published.

    Discussion

    3.	Canada recognises that there has already been a significant
    amount of valuable open engagement and dialogue with industry as
    part of the initial work to help understand the challenges of
    FPT. This existing work and outputs from previous engagements
    continues to be evaluated to ascertain what benefits may be
    transferred into the efforts now focusing on iFPT.

    4.	The iFPT project team is currently working to establish the
    strategic requirements and identify the business needs required
    to allow it to receive approval to start its OA process. It is
    anticipated that a further RFI may be released once this initial
    scoping work has been completed.

    Responses Requested

    5.	No response to this update is requested from industry. The
    purpose is to inform industry that there has been a change in
    the FPT project and that a new project, iFPT has been created to
    address any potential gap in pilot training.

    6.	This change to how Canada intends to implement FPT will be
    included in the next edition of the Defence Acquisition Guide
    (DAG).

    7.	Questions or requests for the FPT or iFPT project should be
    sent to: fpt.project@forces.gc.ca.

    Delivery Date: Above-mentioned

    The Crown retains the right to negotiate with suppliers on any
    procurement.

    Documents may be submitted in either official language of Canada.
