The future of Government of Canada procurement is here! Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) has a new suite of online procurement services called CanadaBuys, which includes the web-based tool called SAP Ariba.

Use this handy checklist to gather all the information you need to register your business in SAP Ariba to begin selling to PSPC. Getting everything together beforehand will save you time and make registration a snap!

For more detailed guidance, read our step-by-step article on how to register.

On this page:

Visit our SAP Ariba registration page when you’re ready to get started with the self-registration process. Be sure to use this link as it gives you access to all the fields you will need to fill out to complete your Government of Canada profile.

If you have any questions during this process you can call, email, or chat with the CanadaBuys Service Desk.

Basic company information

First, you’ll be asked to enter some basic information to create a company profile. A company profile will allow you to view tender opportunities. Here is what you’ll need:

  • business’s legal name
  • street address
  • city
  • province
  • postal code
  • country

Note: You must enter your business’s legal name while registering. If you are unsure of your business’s legal name, you can use the Government of Canada’s GST/HST Registry Search to verify that you have the correct name.

Next, decide who the main user of your account will be. This person’s name, email address and phone number will be visible to Government of Canada buyers on your company profile. This person can also choose to receive all account notifications. You will be able to add other users to the account once you’re all set up. The information needed is:

  • first and last name
  • email address
  • username
  • password
  • email address for notifications and orders (if different from main email address)

Company profile

To bid on tender opportunities, you'll need to complete your company profile with the following information:

  • business’s legal name
  • short description of your business
  • product/service categories (these will further describe what your business sells)
  • ship-to address and service locations
  • year founded
  • number of employees
  • whether your business is a sole proprietorship, corporation, partnership or cooperative

General business questions

You’ll need to fill out the Government of Canada’s required questionnaire. You’ll need:

  • general company information (choose the industry that corresponds to your main business activity)
  • type of business
  • names of current owners, directors, and partners AND the relationship (such as owner, trustee, etc.) but their position is optional (such as CEO, CFO, etc.)
  • voluntary Indigenous self-identification (if applicable)
    • Why is the government asking for this information? SAP Ariba is a separate web-based tool now required to do business with the Government of Canada and all businesses wishing to bid on opportunities need to create their own account. Your account information is stored according to the provisions in the Privacy Act, and this section is completely voluntary.
  • official documents for environmental management systems (if applicable, such as ISO14001, etc.)
  • links to sustainable suppliers’ rating systems (such as LEED or equivalent)

Financial information

If your business is in the process of finalizing a contract with PSPC, you must enter this next set of information. Here’s what you'll need:

  • Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) business number, visit the CRA website to learn how to get your business number if you do not already have one
  • CRA ownership type (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, other)
  • vendor type (Canadian, non-Canadian)
  • country code (if non-Canadian)
  • preferred method of payment
    • Canadian (direct deposit, cheque)
      • bank name
      • bank address
      • name of account holder
      • Financial Institution Number
      • branch number
      • account number
      • copy of voided cheque or confirmation letter from your bank
    • Non-Canadian (wire, cheque)
      • bank name
      • bank address
      • name of account holder
      • BIC/SWIFT code
      • bank sort code
      • account type
      • account number
      • bank control key (an alphanumeric, two-character field that indicates the type of bank account such as chequing, savings, credit, etc.)
      • International Bank Account Number (IBAN)
      • wire instructions
      • copy of a voided cheque or wire details from your bank
