    Description

    1.1 Background

    .1 Small Craft Harbours (SCH) requires the demolition of old concrete float and disposal to appropriate disposal/recycling facility.

    .2 The concrete float is approximate 75ft long, 25ft wide and 46” thick filled with Styrofoam floatation.

    .3 Refer to FORESHORE Marine & Environmental Services – Concrete Float Inspection Feb21, 2020 in Appendix A for reference.

    1.2 Location of the Concrete Float

    .1 The concrete float is moored at 3827 River Road West, Delta, BC (“temporary storage facility”) – marine access only - located on private lease. – Require 7 day written notice to Department Representative prior to access to the float.

    .1 Note: Float has been moved to the above address after the Foreshore inspection was done.

    .2 Float must be towed away from the private lease before any work can be done on it.

    1.3 Description of Work

    .1 Removal and Demolition of 75’x25’x4’ Concrete Float filled with Styrofoam

    .1 This is a lump sum item for the following:

    .1 Mobilization and Demobilization

    .2 Towing of float away from the temporary storage facility to Contractor’s proposed demolition facility.

    .3 Removal and disposal of surface anthropogenic debris on the float (small shed, cook tops, buckets, hoses, vent pipe, stands, ropes paint cans and cables) .

    .1 There were people living on the float – possibility of needles/sharps. Contractor must handle and dispose of sharps appropriately if encountered.

        1. Deconstruction of the float which includes material separation, sorting and placement in disposal bins or trucks.

          1. Refer to appendix A for typical float sections and physical information.

          2. Materials must be sorted prior to delivery to disposal or recycling facility.

          3. No historical drawings of the float is available.

        2. The Contractor must provide proof that the float is being demolished and being disposed off to appropriate disposal/recycling facilities. Example of proofs are:

    1. Photos of the demolition work

    2. Provide demolition address to Site Representative for inspection

    3. Weigh slip, and tipping fees from the facilities must be provided to the Owner.

        1. Styrofoam debris must be contained and is not allowed to escape into marine environment.

        2. Styrofoam must be cleaned off from the concrete at the best ability to reduce the tonnage of “dirty concrete” i.e. concrete with Styrofoam debris.

      1. Disposal Fee

    1. This is cost plus line item that covers the following:

      1. Supply of disposal bins and/or dump trucks

      2. Hauling of sorted materials to approved disposal/recycling facilities

      3. Disposal and tipping fees generated from the float demolition.

    2. Material shall be disposed by the Contractor in strict accordance with provincial, local, and municipal regulations and Part 8 of the National Building Code and with the Canadian Construction Safety Code.

    3. Invoice(s) from vendors or disposal facilities must be provided to the Owner as a proof of actual cost and will be used as a measure of payment under this line item.
